Team members sit together, while coaches monitor rows and sections.
Each team will recieve materials to record their answers.
Moderator asks questions about the books. The moderator will read the question which will also be displayed on a screen. The moderator will read each question two times.
All competition questions will come from specific editions of books selected by the Broadneck Battle of the Books team. All parts of those books are considered fair game. Teams should refer to the ISBN numbers for specific editions.
Each round includes at least one question about each book. Questions can include:
A direct quote from one of the characters.
A statement about something that happens in the book
A passage directly from the book
Details about an illustration or picture
Teams will have 30 seconds to quietly discuss and enter their answers.
When 30 seconds are up, time is called, and the coaches collect responses from their assigned row.
There will be a practice round, followed by three battle rounds with 15 questions each.
At the end of each round, the moderator will announce the correct title and author for the questions, which are also displayed on the screen.
Points will be tallied.
Each team receives two points for each correct answer. Bonus questions are worth four points each.
All teams at the gold and silver medal will be recognized during the event.
The school with the highest average will be recognized during the event.
All students will receive a Certificate of Participation (handed out by coaches).
